Head of Neptune, god of the sea, which is a detail from a famous Roman mosaic. The stamp has an overprint “FFL” (Free French Forces) with a value of 15 francs.
The mosaic comes from the ancient site of Utica (Utica) and is kept at the Bardo Museum in Tunis.
“The Triumph of Neptune” illustrates the richness of Roman art in North Africa. The use of this heritage on stamps from the colonial era demonstrates a desire to highlight the historical and cultural identity of Tunisia.
