1st Anniversary of Independence. Work

This stamp commemorates the first anniversary of Tunisia's independence, celebrated on March 20, 1956. It depicts Habib Bourguiba, central figure in the national struggle and first president of the Tunisian Republic. Habib Bourguiba led negotiations with France to end the protectorate established in 1881. After independence in 1956, he first became Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tunisia before proclaiming the Republic on July 25, 1957, of which he became its first president.
