15th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
This stamp commemorates the 15th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, illustrating the adherence of the young Tunisian Republic to the humanist principles upheld by the international community. The graphics, designed by artist Hatem El Mekki, merge human anatomy and planetary geography by representing a world-face whose eyes are replaced by the scales of justice. By integrating the emblems of the UN and UNESCO into the scales of this scale, the work carries a message of universal protection of human dignity through law, education and culture. In the context of the 1960s, this broadcast underlines Tunisia's desire to assert itself as a modern and enlightened nation, inscribing its institutional identity in respect for fundamental freedoms and multilateral dialogue for the progress of humanity.
