70th Anniversary of the birth of Mohamed Ali
This stamp pays tribute to Mohamed Ali El Hammi (1894-1928), a leading figure in trade unionism and a pioneer of the social struggle in Tunisia. His portrait celebrates the founder of the General Confederation of Tunisian Workers (CGTT), the country's first autonomous trade union organization, which was able to unfailingly link the defense of workers' rights to the aspiration for national independence. In the context of the construction of modern Tunisia, this program underlines the importance of social justice as the basis of republican identity and gives thanks to the courage of a man whose commitment awakened collective consciousness in the face of colonial oppression. The message carried is that of historical recognition of the popular roots of the national movement, establishing El Hammi as a symbol of worker dignity and dedication to the homeland.
