Pelargonium denticulatum
This stamp highlights Pelargonium denticulatum, better known in Tunisia under the name “Al-Anbariya”. This perennial plant, belonging to the Geraniaceae family, is distinguished by its very cut evergreen foliage, with narrow and denticulated lobes, which gives off an intense, balsamic scent when crushed. Its small flowers, generally grouped in umbels, display delicate shades ranging from pink to purple. Although native to southern Africa, it has perfectly acclimatized to the Mediterranean climate and is now an integral part of the Tunisian horticultural landscape, adorning patios and traditional gardens for its great resistance to heat.
Beyond its ornamental qualities, Anbariya occupies a privileged place in the sensory heritage and popular pharmacopoeia of the country. Its leaves, rich in essential oils, are often used for their aromatic properties in the making of artisanal perfumes or as a natural insect repellent in city homes. By dedicating this postal figurine to this species, the Republic promotes a plant which symbolizes the refinement and sweetness of life of Tunisian gardens. This stamp thus testifies to the historical attachment to a domesticated and fragrant nature, making the Anbariya a true ambassador of plant elegance and the harmony of national green spaces.
