9th International Festival of Popular Arts of Carthage. 17th century illumination
This 20 millime stamp highlights the art of 18th century illumination, a period when the ornamentation of manuscripts reached exceptional refinement under the influence of Andalusian and Ottoman styles. At that time, the decoration of religious texts and official documents was not limited to a simple aesthetic function, but served to magnify knowledge and assert the prestige of Tunisian libraries. By celebrating this heritage, the Republic recalls the technical mastery of the master illuminators who knew how to merge geometry and floral motifs to create a unique visual language, witness to the intellectual wealth of Beylical Tunisia.
