Tribute to the painter Hédi Khayachi
This issue reproduces a work by Hédi Khayachi (1882-1948), official portraitist of the Beylical court and pioneer of Tunisian painting. The illustration depicts a young woman at work in front of a traditional loom. This stamp celebrates the transition to a national easel painting that takes everyday life and crafts as its subject. By highlighting this weaving scene, Tunisia honors not only a master of its painting, but also the historical role of women in the preservation of the textile heritage, pillar of the domestic economy and the aesthetic identity of the country.
