The Arabs: Ibn El Jazzar
This stamp pays tribute to Ibn El Jazzar (895-979), famous Kairouan doctor of the Fatimid era, whose work profoundly influenced medieval medicine in the East and West. Ali Bellagha's illustration depicts him in his study, surrounded by manuscripts and pharmacy instruments, holding a parchment evoking his major work, the Zad al-Musafir (The Traveler's Provision). This program highlights Tunisia's historical contribution to universal science and recalls the importance of the Kairouan medical school, a major center of intellectual influence in the Middle Ages.
