The stamp celebrates Professor Hulusi Behçet (1889-1948), famous for describing the inflammatory blood vessel disease that today bears his name. Hulûsi Behçet is a pioneering figure in modern medicine in Türkiye. He was the first to receive the title of professor in Turkish academia. In addition to his work on syphilis and leishmaniasis, he is especially famous for having identified and described, in 1937, a chronic inflammatory disease which today bears his name: Behçet's disease.
