Wedding suits - Houmt-Souk-Djerba
This stamp celebrates the richness and diversity of Tunisian clothing heritage through the representation of the traditional wedding costume of Houmt Souk, on the island of Djerba. The illustration highlights the “Melhafa”, a drape with shimmering colors and characteristic horizontal stripes, as well as the profusion of silver and gilding jewelry which symbolizes the protection, fertility and social status of the bride. In the background, the silhouettes wearing the pointed straw hat, the “Mdhalla”, recall the craft of basketry and the rural and island identity of Djerba. This program is part of a desire to preserve nuptial rites and Tunisian artisanal know-how, testifying to a culture where costume is not a simple adornment, but a visual language anchored in the history and traditions of each region of the country.
