Protohistory - Bas-relief of Zaghouan
This issue presents a protohistoric bas-relief discovered in the Zaghouan region, also dating from around 1000 BC. The illustration reproduces the stylized head of a bovid, a universal symbol of strength and fertility in ancient Mediterranean cultures. Arranged on a graphic background composed of red and black circles, this stamp underlines the importance of breeding and animal worship in the social organization of the first sedentary communities. It testifies to an already developed pre-Punic artistic expression, affirming that the Tunisian territory was a center of sculptural creation long before the arrival of the great maritime civilizations.
