2nd Anniversary of the Arab Maghreb Union
This stamp celebrates the second anniversary of the signing of the Marrakech Treaty (1989) founding the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA). Hatem El Mekki's illustration is highly symbolic: a five-pointed star houses the flags of the five member countries (Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia), surrounding a center where the name of the Union is inscribed in Arabic calligraphy. The whole rests on a crescent formed by two green palm leaves linked by a red ribbon. The message is about unity, fraternity and the common destiny of the peoples of the Maghreb. This stamp underlines Tunisia's ambition to build an integrated economic and political space, capable of influencing the international scene while preserving the region's Arab-Muslim identity.
