Birds-American Goldfinch - Carduelis carduelis
This stamp highlights the European Goldfinch, locally called Moknine. The illustration faithfully captures the species' distinctive features: its vibrant red facial mask, black wings barred with bright yellow, and buff-brown plumage. A bird very popular in Tunisia for the beauty of its song and its shimmering colors, the goldfinch is presented here against a sober background which accentuates its finesse. This program highlights the importance of this passerine bird in the Tunisian cultural and natural heritage, while indirectly recalling the need to protect this species, often a victim of its success with bird catchers.
