African Regional Conference on Human Rights

Created by the artist Hatem El Mekki, this stamp marks the holding in Tunis, in November 1992, of a major continent-wide conference on human rights. The visual is rich in symbols: an open book with the inscription “Human Rights” in French and Arabic, topped with a scale of justice and the map of Africa. Two female faces in profile evoke the diversity of the continent and the role of women in this fight.
