Okba Ibn Nafaâ Mosque - Kairouan
This program highlights the architectural jewel of Kairouan, the oldest mosque in the Maghreb. The photograph shows the immense courtyard (sahn) lined with semi-circular arcades and dominated by its massive minaret with three decreasing levels.
Founded in 670, this mosque is the symbol of the spiritual and intellectual influence of medieval Tunisia. The stamp highlights the majesty of this UNESCO World Heritage site, testifying to the rigor and elegance of Aghlabid architecture which influenced the entire Mediterranean basin.
