Mosaic: “Ulysses and the Sirens”
This stamp reproduces one of the most famous mosaics from the Bardo National Museum. It depicts Odysseus tied to the mast of his ship to resist the song of the sirens, a central scene from Homer's Odyssey discovered at Dougga.
Tunisia has the richest collection of Roman mosaics in the world. This work underlines the country's belonging to the cultural area of classical Antiquity. The stamp highlights the excellence of African mosaicists (musivarii) who knew how to transform stone into mythological poetry.
