Briq and Elyène (ewer and its basin) from the 19th century
This triangular stamp closes the series dedicated to old domestic utensils by featuring a set composed of a “Briq et Elyène” (ewer and its basin) from the 19th century, common to the cities of Kairouan, Tunis and Sfax. This finely crafted copper set was inseparable from the ritual of hospitality and cleanliness, used to wash the hands of guests before and after traditional meals. The program thus promotes the persistence of a refined social etiquette and the know-how of Tunisian coppersmiths who knew how to transform hygiene objects into true ceremonial pieces of urban heritage.
