World Summit on the Information Society, Tunisia 2005
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) takes place in 2 phases. The second phase of the WSIS, hosted by the Tunisian Government, takes place in Tunis from November 16 to 18, 2005. The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is a global forum organized by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), an agency of the United Nations (UN). It aims to reduce the inequality of the planet's inhabitants with regard to access to information through new ICTs, in particular the Internet. It adopted a declaration of principles and an action plan.
The first phase takes place in Geneva, Switzerland, from December 10 to 12, 2003. Its second phase takes place in Tunis from November 16 to 18, 2005.
According to discussions among various stakeholders, it was planned to convene another forum in Athens from October 30 to November 2, 2006 named Internet Governance Forum.
