Traditional Costumes: “Jelwa” outfit
This stamp illustrates the “Tenue de la Jelwa (Sousse)”, a female nuptial costume of great iconographic richness. The garment is characterized by gold and silver embroidery on a background of velvet or green silk, revealing the opulence of the adornments of the Tunisian Sahel region. The Jelwa is a central wedding rite where the bride is presented to the audience, her hands raised in a ritual posture. Through this show, Tunisia values luxury craftsmanship and the complexity of rites of passage, where costume becomes a visual language expressing social status and the preservation of regional customs.
