The Capitol of Sbeïtla
The stamp illustrates the “Capitol” of Sbeïtla (Sufetula), a unique monumental ensemble from the 2nd century composed of three distinct temples dedicated to the Capitoline triad (Jupiter, Juno and Minerva). Unlike most Roman cities which had only one central temple, the tripartite configuration of Sbeïtla is a world rarity. This visual celebrates the splendor of the ancient cities of central Tunisia and underlines the religious and political symbolism of Rome perfectly preserved in the middle of the steppe landscapes.
