Fiftieth anniversary of the Tunisian University
The fiftieth anniversary of the Tunisian University was officially celebrated in 2008, marking 50 years of the creation of the modern university in Tunisia after independence (period 1958-2008).
Although the institution of the University of Tunis as we know it today was formally organized by the decree of March 31, 1960, the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary in 2008 is based on the process of founding the national university begun in 1958, shortly after independence.
It is important to distinguish this modern structure from Ez-Zitouna University, founded in 737, which is considered one of the oldest educational institutions in the world.
