Porte de France “Bab Bhar”
This stamp illustrates “Bab Bhar”, better known as “Porte de France”, which marked the separation between the Arab city and the European city. Its monumental stone arch, located at the eastern end of the medina, evokes the pivotal role of this place as a space for contact and maritime trade. The visual underlines the function of a gateway to the Mediterranean, symbolizing the historic opening of Tunisia to the outside world and the cohabitation of different architectural strata in the heart of the capital, between millennial tradition and colonial modernity.
