Pope Miltiades

This stamp pays homage to Miltiades (or Melchiades), pope from the beginning of the 4th century also from the province of Africa. His pontificate was marked by the end of persecution against Christians under Emperor Constantine, ushering in an era of religious peace. The visual highlights its African identity with the mention “AFER” and underlines the crucial role of ancient Tunisians in the organization of the early Church. Through this series, Tunisia celebrates its multicultural dimension and recalls that it has been, for centuries, a major bridge between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
