Mahdia Fort
This program presents the “Borj el Kébir” of Mahdia, a 16th century Ottoman fortress built on the remains of a Fatimid palace. The illustration highlights the rigorous geometry and power of this bastion which guards the entrance to the historic city. The stamp highlights military architectural heritage as witness to the struggles for control of the central Mediterranean. By promoting this building, Tunisia highlights its glorious past as a maritime capital and the robustness of its defensive institutions which have survived the centuries.
