This stamp commemorates the historic Beijing conference for women's rights. The illustration by Insaf Guezguez Jellazi is very symbolically rich: it presents a traditional triangular fibula (symbol of Tunisian women's adornment) on a background of red and white stripes evoking the national flag. At the top, ears of wheat and a silhouette of a bird suggest prosperity and freedom. This program highlights Tunisia's avant-gardism in terms of women's rights in the Arab world. It links deep cultural identity (the fibula) to the universal aspirations of equality and emancipation debated at the Beijing summit.
