Inauguration of the student hostel in Tunis - 40 millimes
This Tunisian stamp highlights the commemoration of the centenary of the introduction of postage stamps in Tunisia, by linking the modern postal history of the State to a much older heritage embodied by the explicit reference to Carthage. The illustration is part of a strong symbolic approach: it associates the function of communication and exchange, essential to the postal service, with the historical depth of the Tunisian territory, because Carthage represents both an ancient Mediterranean power and a major base of national identity. Through this broadcast, Tunisia affirms the continuity of its institutions and its cultural sovereignty, by inscribing a modern administrative achievement in a long historical period. The stamp thus becomes a medium of memory and transmission, celebrating not only a century of postal service, but also the role of Tunisia as a crossroads of civilizations, where ancient past and contemporary republican construction interact to forge a national identity conscious of its roots and oriented towards the dissemination of knowledge, exchanges and culture.
