Tunisian stamp was issued on July 1, 1888 as part of a series of eight stamps whose design represents the Beylical coat of arms. The issuer of the stamp is the Tunisian Postal Office which depends on the Tunisian government. Although Tunisia was, from 1881, under the regime of the French protectorate, a decree of March 20, 1888 entrusted the postal service and the telegraph service to the Tunisian authority.
