Welcome to Tunisia Stamps

Fish from Tunisia: Tuna

This triangular stamp highlights the bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus), an emblematic species of the Mediterranean and a historic pillar of the Tunisian maritime economy. Tuna fishing, practiced since Antiquity (notably through the ancestral trap technique), is an integral part of the cultural heritage of the Tunisian coasts, from Sidi Daoud to Mahdia. The issue of this stamp underlines the importance of this fishery resource for export and the canning industry, while recalling the need for sustainable management of this noble species in the face of the challenges of international overfishing.
