Kairouan Capital of Islamic Culture: Abou Zamâa Al Balaoui Mausoleum
This stamp celebrates the designation of Kairouan as “Capital of Islamic Culture” in 2009. It illustrates the Mausoleum of Abi Zamâa al-Balawi, better known as the Barber Mosque. The visual highlights the elegance of the galleries with horseshoe arcades and the refinement of the ceramics and sculpted stuccoes which decorate the courtyard. This monument, which houses the tomb of a companion of the Prophet, is a high place of spirituality and a masterpiece of Tunisian architecture from the Ottoman period, symbolizing the historical role of Kairouan as a beacon of knowledge and faith in North Africa.
